So I just saw "In Bruge"....

Why didn't this movie get a nomination for anything?  The academy blows

It was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
Did it win?
No, Milk won. I haven't seen Milk so I can't compare them, but I thought In Bruges had a pretty damn good screenplay. I was disappointed it didn't win.

I'm just disappointed that Brendan Gleeson didn't get a nod for best supporting actor.  He was fantastic.  And although not Oscar worthy, Colin Farrell did a great job too.

Tidbit, the cripple fight in SouthPark was based almost move-for-move from the They Live fight.
Rewatched The Third Man last night. Brilliant stuff.

This is where it's at. You seen The Good German, Fyre? It was likely watching a new Carol Reed film, Soderbergh's such a badass.

I saw Corpse Bride today. One thing I have to say is how hard it tries to be Nightmare before Christmas, and fails doing so. Uninteresting characters, predictable plot, all that jazz.

Also the disc kept skipping, so I asked for a replacement copy. They sent me a new one, and IT KEPT SKIPPING.

GRAHH.

Yes

Though low budget, I really enjoyed bubba for all the reasons one usually likes non-mainstream films: it plays with our cultural sensibilities and "taboo subjects" (black kennedy, elvis lives, the frailty of physical and mental old age, mental illness, nursing homes) and manages to work in into a typical horror/fantasy/scifi package (e.g., super evil baddie that the good guys have to suit up against in order to defeat).

Plus, bruce c.
