Ladies and gentlemen, we've just come full circle.

They have no idea what they are in for (whomever is running it), unless its "official", then they really have no idea what they are in for

Care to explain this for those of us who weren't around when all that shit went down?
[/quote]if i recall correctly, most of the very original members of brbu were just people from the dtoid community who started a tf2 server for dtoid. shit ensued, and brbu was born. i think

In a nutshell, that's pretty much what happened. It's just funny to see history actually repeating itself. You hear about it, but you don't often get to witness it first hand.
They say they're not starting it because they love the game.

Makes me wonder if they're just starting it to be dicks.

This, part of the reason major sites never "start" official game servers for any game is the inevitable shit storm that results from someone getting banned on it. Like Reddit has several servers, but they are all called "Unofficial" reddit servers so the admins of reddit proper can just shrug their shoulders and say "not my problem" when it comes to administration.

What we ran into was a group of trollish people who wanted things to only be for them and their friends while acting like dicks to everyone else. Their general behavior also extended back to the site proper and when a bunch of people asked for administrative action to clean up the site we got the cold shoulder. Basically "the community will police itself" was their policy and that might be fine for a small site, but as you grow, you need a few admins that take actual action instead of giving repeated notices with that carry the power of a UN Resolution ("If you don't stop, we'll send you another strongly worded letter").

If its being admined/paid by the site officially, there will be a shitstorm at some point, if its being admined/paid by a community member, they'll eventually get sick of the BS and shut down the server.

We decided to take our ball and go elsewhere, and they never had a TF2 server again until now.

That totally reminded me of my favorite YTMND ever, of a chick a friend of mine danced with while drunk in college.

Do want
wat. at a hotel and using the internet, for web browsing it's really fucking slow. i install steam on this laptop, and start downloading a game. 1.5 mbps download. what the fuck.
web's firewalled and paywalled, there's some extra hardware at the hotel to make sure every email browser is paying for their service or is a hotel rewards cardholder

and for 95% of hotel guests, "the Internet" is "the Web".

I know.

It hates you.
So you know those straight razor blades that come with the brown cardboard-y paper wrapped around the blade?

Yeah, I carried two of them in my wallet from Maine to Wisconsin, on two planes.
