Post for the gyarados on the cosplay facebook page I set up finally starting to take off, 578 page likes and counting
Finally finished Breaking Bad last night, very good series that I took too long to get around to.

Moral of the story is, if you don't have universal healthcare, highschool teachers become meth kingpins

I'm doing a Halloween trivia on Tuesday.  It's almost done but I'd like to do some questions based on scary facts.  Like facts that are actually scary to know them.  Unsolved mysteries, weird ways to die, etc.  PM me if you know any (Xineoph will be at my trivia).

There is no specific setting for this. I'll have to dig deeper later on.

Ready for a small time waster? It's a website that gives census info about surnames, like surname history and current population density of the surname.

http://forebears.io/surnames

My last name, for instance, only belongs to about 430 people throughout the entire world, and is almost all within the US. The last name where it originated from, however, is almost all currently within Germany, and my mother's maiden last name has a very rich history and is currently almost everywhere throughout the world.

That's pretty sweet, thanks for linking this!

My dad's somewhat into our family history and has been able to go back to the 1600's with records he could get his hands on. Apparently there's a chance we're related to this guy, and some historical society is doing a search for relatives right now. You can send in your family tree to a certain number of generations, and they're using that to track back and find out. He sent it in last week, we'll find out some time in the future, I guess.

Based on what he showed me there actually could be a pretty good chance, would be neat.

That kind of makes me curious if anyone else here is related in some way to somebody famous/important in history.
Go to it, BRB! Dig up your family history!
My great uncle did, found out my affinity towards tech is nothing new in my family, a long time ago we were blacksmiths (tech at the time), then my great great grandfather and great were the only mechanics in the village (newest tech at the time) they called him "Maestro", then the only house in the village with an electric light (singular)... then my grandfather and great uncle both got electrical engineering degrees as that kind of generalized education was, again, most prevalent tech.

But the more interesting parts involve the fact that my great grandfather was in WWII... not on the good guys side since he didn't have a choice (former austria-hungary, no slovenia) but I also later found out he was part of the resistance and also had plenty of stories that came very close to the possibility of me not existing today (including a bathroom incident that involved a bomb hitting said bathroom).

He was also once given a Harley Davidson by the Nazi's to fix, of course he's in austria-hungary with no imperial measurement tools so he first had to make them with his basically foot drive bench tools meant for making tools. But he fixed it, and rode it once, and said "It was the scariest thing I've ever ridden in my life!"

If you go far enough back you often need to find your records in churches, and apparently my family lived in that village for 600 years. The more recent history is more entertaining because I was lucky enough to have had these discussions with my great grandfather when I was younger. And my great grandmother (who lived to 96 before she passed).

The house that has been in the family (for that long) is still in the family, currently half owned by my grandfather and his brother. Their sister currently lives in it to take care of it. I hope one day to go and visit the family home and perhaps visit other relatives.

That's my dad's side.

Plus my mother has been digging into her side of the family for a very long time. Not as interesting if you ask me, the typical british/irish immigrant story that about everyone knows.

But that definitely is a very cool link.
The Neumann's are the 16th most populous last name in Germany, and in the top 2k USA.
My grandfather was born in Germany and came here during the war.
