I just got a pair of Newton's to train how to do forefoot running and now that I'm finally adjusting to it I really like it. The running style is easier on your knees and better for you overall. It kills your calves though.

I can run in ski boots, does this count? I assume it uses the same overall motions

Try running barefoot, you should be hitting the ground right before your arches at that line of bones before your toes (the ball of your feet? I dunno feet). Supposedly that's how we evolved to run, but the padding in shoes allowed us to run like we walk which is heel-to-toe. Supposedly you get a lot of benefit by learning to run like you are barefoot, so you can either go with the five-fingers, use shoes that reward proper running like Newtons, or just teach yourself to run like that with any shoes. Running in ski boots probably gives you the right form, but I'm from FL so I don't know much about it.

Was it you I was complaining about Samsung drives to? Nothing but problems with them.
Still not as bad as Hitachi drives, I've had a 100% failure rate on those shit boxes within the first six months. That is out of two hundred units!
Dong Derby stuff was pretty fun.

Otherwise tf2 is still shit.

My MCAT scores are about to be released, in probably 4.5 hours. It's not overly dramatic to say that these results will determine what course my intended career takes (ie whether or not I have a shot at medical school). Not sure if this is an FML because of all the nervous tension or an Improved My Day because the anxiety of waiting will soon be over. So it goes here, I guess. Just a little while left.

What do you call the guy who graduates bottom of his class in medical school?

Okay, got the scores. And it's kind of an FML and kind of an improved my day so here we go again:

Scored pretty badly on Verbal Reasoning, which for me has always been a crapshoot and incredibly subjective. In fact I scored fully 3 points lower than I was expecting, which is about 30 percentile ranks. My sciences were were they were expected, but my writing was stupidly good. Like, a T is the highest possible score you can get. So....hooray I suppose? Lower numerical score overall, higher writing score. Sadly, med schools tend not to care a lot about the writing score.

NINJA EDIT: For reference

Sooo.... you did very well, I think?

In general yeah, I'm in the top 3%. Just that my score is kind of incredibly lopsided, and also I had been doing even better on practice tests which inflated my expectations. For reference, I figured I would get 39-42, with a writing of maybe Q.

will it get you into med school you want to attend? If so, who cares about the score. Go celebrate.

That's really good, it'll definitely get you into a lot of med schools since you have a good GPA to accompany it. Now all you have to worry about are the apps and potential interviews! (I'm sure you'll def. get into UW with this score, a guy from my research lab who scored a 38 recently got accepted)

Sooooo, what med schools were you thinking about applying to? I bought the AAMC book but I haven't had the time to look at it.

rumsfald

grats, 8b. that's a very strong score. it won't hold you back.

at the upper end of competitive schools, decisions can come down to good references, interview, portfolio/volunteer work, etc.

Congrats, 8!

Time to break out that rum I gave you at ACEN if you haven't put it to good use already.

Frankly? Anywhere that will take me. Definitely applying to UW, Milwaukee, Rosalind Franklin, UIUC. Definitely not applying to UC schools, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, or WashU. And forget about PR (lol) and Osteopathic schools.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, the score is good and I have to remember that; just hard to keep perspective.

Any particular reason for not applying to those schools? I wouldn't apply to the Cali, Harvard, or JH med schools either but WashU would be a great place to study. Unless you're talking about the one in St.Louis (I'm talking about the one in Seattle lol)

Remember, no regrets! It's a fantastic score, and I'm sure you have a really high chance of getting into the schools you want.
Every time a physics exam rolls around, I think about why I didn't go to McGill instead of UW. Regrets. LOL
