Don't forget highest wage disparity and highest child poverty rate.
'MURRICA, FUCK YAR
Also highest rates of incarceration. Privatizing the prison system was an awesome idea.
I guess it's hard to understand all these laws when I come from a country where locking doors is abnormal.

I lock the shit outta my door.
After having idiot landlords letting people in without notice and people wandering into my yard and peeking in my windows, I think it is very normal to lock them here.
Even my parents, on a farm in the middle of nowhere, lock their doors because there are still folks going around into houses and onto farms to steal shit.

Well they do lock them in the larger cities, but most other places they don't bother with it. Some don't even bother with locking their cars. Theft isn't that common outside the cities.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've locked my truck doors around here. People just don't steal often in my neck of the woods. Granted, in one off the larger towns just past where I live they do, but their rampant meth consumption causes them to be terrible thieves, allowing most items to be returned to their owners by the police.
As for my house: I've never locked it. Same goes for the barn.

Hek's version was better. My line looks half-formed in retrospect.

My folks are nowhere near a major city and they still lock them. It's common enough for others in the town; someone used to steal mail out of people's cars, and it was always a big topic among folks in town about how they had to lock them, because of that (and other) theft.
Not to mention the multiple break-ins to people both in the small town where I grew up and all the surrounding farms. People actually do drive around at night and go down lanes looking for houses with the lights off to get into. Farms get their tools stolen all the time. Even more popular is for farms or properties with gas tanks (purple gas for the machinery) getting their gas stolen ALL the time. If you don't lock those tanks (and even when you do), expect people to come and steal your gas. They will.

That's just sad ): I don't understand why people feel compelled to steal.
People are butts, unfortunately.
Even our tiny little hometown has a curfew now because some kids went out at night and tortured one of the peacocks to death once (the town has a bunch of peacocks that run wild in the summer).
Just had my front door tested by a stranger a couple days ago. I happened to be home at the time and chopping onions with my favorite chef's knife, so I had options; but I lock it behind me whether coming or going, so I just stared lasers at the rattling doorknob. She was stupid enough to yell, "OKAY IT'S LOCKED WHAT NOW?" before running back down the stairs, so now I know she wasn't alone.

Should have answered it, knife in hand with: "Oh boy! Visitors! Are you ready to hear the good word?"
Requires bloodstained apron for best results.
