2011: Year of the BRBU Engagements

After a week of work and $450 of new parts, my desktop finally works. In the end it was my PSU despite showing no symptoms. Regardless, I now have an upgraded machine with a PSU that will last me a pair of southern islands and ivy bridge in the future. On top of that, my extra working parts are almost enough for a backup machine in case this type of shit happens again.

Finally recovered my laptop. Hard drive needed to be replaced. And it looks like I'll finally be able to build my gaming rig in 2 paychecks.

Also, I'm proud to report that my currently ongoing "Let's see if games act less retarded on a 3.7Ghz quad core vs a 3.2Ghz hex core" is a raging success. My nerd points were sufficiently filled by being an almost day 0 adopter of AMD's first 6 core CPU (1090T) - but pretty much every game known to man still can't utilize more than 2-3 cores (properly and completely), let alone 6.

So I went ahead and swapped out my 1090T for a Phenom II X4 980 clocked at (stock) a lovely 3.7Ghz - and I can push it to 4.3 with the upgraded cooler I recently purchased as well. So when I need the raw processing power my 1090T would have given me, I can clock it way up and get to about 85% of the processing power I lost. And I don't have retarded FPS drops to like 14 when I walk around a corner in TF2.

Totally just blew away MIT interview. I was really lucky to have an interviewer that was a bit of a gamer so there was tons of good common ground and stuff.
