Quote:Verizon Wireless is contemplating changing its pricing model and switching from unlimited data plans and to tiered pricing, the company said.
Chief Financial Officer John Killian said in an interview that Verizon Wireless will probably change to tiered pricing and do away with an unlimited flat rate. At a recent Barclayâs conference, Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam also confirmed the carrier would instead use tiered pricing programs and customers would âbuy buckets of data by the megabyte.â The reason, said McAdam, was that people have four or five devices they will connect to the network.
AT&T is doing the same thing.

also, as hot as it is, I would consider saving the bike trip for after the gym, the last thing you want to do is end up dehydrated before you get to the gym to do your workout. That said, cycling is great if you stick with it, if you don't have one yet and get into cycling enough to warrant the purchase, I'd look into getting a road bike, or at least putting road tires on a mountain bike (it looks retarded but it makes a world of difference).
edit: @dtrain and trick: uhhh, didn't AT&T already make the switch? fucking sucks for anyone who was a late adopter of the iphone or similar, now I'll never purchase a smart phone

Everyone on the old plans gets grandfathered in
And now you see that the phone companies are more like a cartel than anything, just looking to squeeze every penny out of consumers. I think they would make more money if they made their unlimited data plan a selling point and openly encouraged people to jail break their iPhones and sign up on their service.
Differentiate? Nah, we'd rather collude.

yea, that's why I said late-adopters get screwed. if I had known about the switch in pricing sooner I would've bought a smartphone just to get in before it was too late. oh well :\

It's because of the extreme vertical integration of the industry. They just pick a level they choose to compete on and run an oligopoly on the rest. They obviously do not choose to compete on infrastructure since that is hard so they compete in other ways, like phones and advertising. All the countries that have better, cheaper service break up the vertical integration so they have to compete at every level.

well to be fair. Your average smart phone user won't hit the new limits in a month. The only people this will affect are the tech guys who like to tether and stuff. And when it comes down to it, phone geeks aren't Verizon/Sprint/AT&T's target market.

[/quote]You're exactly right. Tech users are the ones that cost them the most, so they're making life difficult for them in an attempt to get more cash out of them. And because of phone exclusivity agreements, they've got you locked into your provider. If you want to get a better deal, your phone is a brick and you get slapped with a huge termination fee (see Verizon's recent increase on those as well).

Itâs like gyms.
They print money off of you because you never go. Or if you do, you used free weights and the treadmill for 90 minutes 3-4 times a week. You pay for unlimited access, but you only use the service a few hours every week.
This is like charging really fit people who go twice a day double the costs because âit isnât fair to the other peopleâ. Well guess what, most people barely use the gym. Itâs just trying to take advantage of the people who really use the service.
Itâs like exploitation on top of exploitation. Drives me crazy. I know more and more of the Data is getting used, but this is
preventative from reading the analyst report. As in, looking forward to 4G phones, and
thinking it could be a problem.
Ugh.
Tiered pricing makes me want to line up the people responsible and shoot them.
Also, I received pre-interview packet for an interview later in the week. I've a the nagging suspicion this is going to be more difficult than the selection process for OCS. Which is crazy.Â
seriously, wtf kind of personality test has questions like this?
One designed by a fucking sadist psychologist that sold a corporation on the idea of knowing how you'll react to situations without having to actually hire you first.
they're using the results to tailor their behavioral interview questions to me.Â
I think my first response is going to involve, "I think your personality test is inane dribble, and I hope you didn't actually pay money for it"

Dude that's kinda awesome.
Apparently I can no longer play TF2 without my network connection dying or my computer fucking up. I sent in a help request from ASUS, I think my mobo might be dying. Also had 2 restarts. Part of me wants to say fuck it and get an intel mobo and chip.

I've had a helluva morning. I'm ready to go home.
