So my "superiors" on my shoot forgot to send me a vital email that would've saved me a shitload of trouble that they sent out to the mass of the crew last week. Now I have to get this call sheet done in the next 2 hours

Alternately, they're fucking with you on purpose to see how you handle it. GE did that to me while I was an intern, twice, and my boss only admitted it when I asked him face-to-face about it after the fact.

Deep-frying some stuff an hour ago. Either I used too small of a pot, or too high of heat, or was frying too much stuff, but the oil more or less exploded and covered my face and hands. A lot ended up on my glasses, thank fuck I was wearing them. Most of the rest of my face has red splotches which hurt like hell, same with my fingers. On the bright side, it's first-degree or less, so I shouldn't need formal medical attention.

EDIT: Yes, I have a splash guard. I was moving things around though.

The teaching method known as "let them panic and figure shit out on their own for a while" is pretty damn effective... So long as you actually step in if necessary.

You weren't using proper personal protective equipment and weren't working under a fume hood.

That's just asking for it.

In my first apartment living with other people in college one of the chick roommates decided to high-fry an egg in olive oil which had much the same result eightball.Â My brother, who was visiting at the time, and myself just heard screams from the kitchen and ran down just in time see her running around the living room, literally in circles, with a frying pan full of flaming oil trying to figure out what to do.Â We disarmed her and extinguished the fire.Â But the carpet, and our deposit, was never the same.Â

I was well below the smoke point for this oil (canola) and was going at a heat I know worked for this particular application (made it before). I think what happened is I had too much stuff in the pot. Too much bunched together > large pocket for moisture/gas to collect > kaboom.

I do need to invest in an oil thermometer though.

No visible damage as of yet, so I'm pretty thankful.

The team finally found the balls to criticize my playstyle after we lost in the postseason. Thanks. Could have used that info 2 weeks ago.

Man I really want to see this live.

I'm embarrassed to be an alum of Rutgers right now.

I got recruited into an acapella group for a contest.Â We wrote a parody song and sung it fantastically.Â The applause was TREMENDOUS when we finished.Â A reverberating, atonal din that shook the building.Â The kind of noise that causes plaster to fall.Â

Then after us a sorority stepped up and sang a medley of Disney songs.Â Mother.Â Fucking.Â Disney songs.Â

We ended up winning second place.

That all aside it was pretty fun, and the prize was $50, so not really a big deal.

After this shoot is over I want to go out of my way to never work with about half my crew ever again, mainly the production side.
