From earlier today on the ghost-town IRC:
Also Zaius it's not "just facebook", it's Fox News. Fox is absolutely nothing more than sensationalism, and only idiots follow their facebook. Every country has a percentage of the population that is idiots, America just has one of the world's larger populations.

The loudest people are the most idiotic. There are plenty of people in the comments calling them out for saying they want a slow-motion video of him being blown up by a pressure-cooker bomb.
The average American you'll meet in day-to-day life is nothing like this, they just gain greater public appearance and ridicule due to how quickly stuff on the internet spreads and the ease of being able to post stupid shit. The real issue is we have some prolific politicians who reinforce these views and other forms of bigotry and barbarism (and currently have control of the House, but instead of doing things to actually help the country they'd rather spend their time unsuccessfully trying to repeal Obamacare and sue King Obama) and these types of people will vote for them, unfortunately, but as more and more minorities of all kinds grow to voting age eventually things will hopefully change and they'll be ousted from positions of power. My mom's a retirement age Republican who drinks the Fox-News Kool-Aid, yet I didn't grow up a bigot like her.
Another issue is last year there was a lot of voter apathy (although this naturally occurs for mid-terms after a presidential, because people aren't as interested in learning about their local politicians, in addition to Republicans actually introducing legislation to make it harder to register to vote, more specifically in states with liberals and minorities as well as large amounts of low-income citizens, Republicans are actively interested in keeping people away from the polls so they can't vote against them)
But then we also have conspiratards trying to "wake up the sheeple" (except they have no actual interest in bettering things and would rather line their own pockets by selling survival gear while also being racist assholes at the same time)
I hope I never live to see the day the conspiratards decide to try to stage a disorganized revolution and make life hell for everyone in America.
I must admit I erred in specifying Americans over any other demographic, I should have just left it at people (with toxic goo for brains).
In any event, it's a damn shame to see that so many unfathomable years of evolution has culminated in such idiocy. I had a pretty hot head when I posted that, but as you are saying it's just another example of how stupidity is easiest to see when it's being shouted from mountain tops. I should have been more careful to omit the politics of it and instead emphasized the philosophy and ethics spectrum.

The data is not necessarily lost. If it is worth enough to you you can hire someone to recover the data.
Also don't try this but I once recovered a dead HDD by putting it in the freezer for a while. True story.
Let me all though. Are you sure the drive is dead? Quite often the power supply of the case of an external drive fails but the drive is fine.

[/quote]It is when I've tried to reformat the drive like 8 times.
CRC/bad sectors and fucking CHKDSK won't run. Just left it on all night and it made literally no progress.
Basement seepage ho!
At least the only causalities are the edges of two rugs which the landlord will help get cleaned. Pumps and new drains did their job but fuck if I didn't have a near panic attack when I noticed it.
Also praise be unto shop vacs
Ended up in the hospital after a reaction to something caused massive face swelling. Sent home same day, which is good.
Doctors didn't know if it's an infection, allergic or other (insect bites?) as it didn't know clear signs of any.
Few days off work as my meds kick in. At least I can see out of my eye now.

Sounds like an allergic reaction (allergies can change every 7 years or so), something you've never been allergic to before might just start someday. I wasn't allergic to cats up until I was around 12 or 13. So I'd see an allergist if you can.
Ugh, I hate the horror that is finding a place to live in this town. Back in AZ you could find affordable housing all over the place, here it's $1050 for a 800 sq. ft 1 bathroom apartment in the ghetto.
Christ, I hope I can find somewhere decent to live.
I pay $1050 a month for a 1500 sq. ft. house with a 2 car garage and a yard.
