Just found out I lost about a week and a half vacation time. Reason: Don't use it loose it. I thought that we get a week vacation every 6 months so two weeks a year with the previous week expiring a year later. It turns out that you get that 6 months to use the week or you loose it. I always liked to have a week banked just in case I needed it and use the other week as I needed making sure i used it in a year so i constantly got refreshed. No one told me this when I started here.
TL;DR Small businesses can have crappy HR practices.
Talk with them and ask for a pay-out, use it or loose it is a terrible policy that robs you of what you earned.

It's even worse when the supervisor won't allow you to take time off for their own personal reasons (not me at work yet, but someone I know). The only option given was to donate excess pto to "needy" coworkers who take time off all the time already.
Tropical storm coming through Gainesville tomorrow. Getting to and from work on my bike seems likely to be tons of fun.

I would say that I regret every bad joke I ever made online, but, I don't.
You can pry my off-color jokes and private conversations from my cold, dead mouth.
Hey! I have that shirt... and glasses... and age....
creepy.
Mother called today.
She's dealing with unwarranted shit from my (late) Father's sister who wants her cut of my (also late) grandfather's money.
On top of that, she told me that she's been getting a numb tongue after eating broccoli. She got blood tests, doctor said that the blood tests were "clear." Now she gets a call from the doctor asking to come in for a follow up. Her appointment is at 8:30 a.m. God damn it, waiting sucks.

If she's not in the respective wills, she doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Also, if she's having a reaction, STOP EATING BROCCOLI

this is shameful. I really shouldn't want to go protest against my own employer.Â

Thomas Jefferson (The original Quote on which "A people should not fear its government, the government should fear its people" is based.)
Test is negative for anything serious.
I have a final on Friday. This is the level of quality I have come to expect from the class lecture materials.

[/quote]I'm amused by the fact that my interpretation of that picture involves the difference between sitting down on the floor, and having your ass slapped by a giant rubber hand.
Oh god, you have Lodish Cell Biology too. Fuck that text with a rusty rake, and cell biology in general.
what the hell is that supposed to be?
I spent 5 hours today helping the Overhead Doors guy fail to install a side mounted garage door opener in my garage today.Â

At my parents house the side one is an old doorbell, and the combo keypad outside is wireless. Both were easy to install. What was this guy's major malfunction?
well, the garage was wired for a traditional one, which was never installed. To install one, I'd lose 13" of clearance on the door because the support beam for the master bedroom runs straight through the middle of the garage and it'd have to be mounted in front of it... which would subtract track length available to the door. So first we had to run all the wires again. Then, we went through two new, out of the box operators (the actual motor assembly) that both had faults in them. During the troubleshooting, because god damn if the second one actually is broken, we realigned the rod at the top, the tracks, the door- basically reinstalled the damn thing. The second one's motor is jacked, but in a subtle way- it'll work without resistance just fine, but put any type of load on it and nothing. And testing it we managed to kill the control board on it (which was the problem with the first one) It's like winning the lottery to get two fucked up liftmasters right out of the box.Â
I'm probably going to have a love/hate relationship with this day for a long, long time.
RIP David L Bassett, April 18th 1951 - August 2nd 2011
This is a picture from the weekend of BRBU's first ACEN, May 29th 2011. It's the last time by dad left the state of Illinois (we went to Milwaukee for my youngest sister's college graduation), and it's one of the last times he left the house to go anywhere but the hospital. The fact that he was sick is why I made it a priority to skip out on fun with BRBU and attend the graduation. This picture is the one of the last times I ever remember him smiling. I miss him. Happy Father's day, Dad.
