Took my SUV to the mechanic today to get a once-over before essentially giving it to a friend of mine who's unemployed and in need of wheels. It fell apart in the parking lot after the mechanic inspected it, requires $2500-3000 in repairs before it's driveable. Looks like it's getting donated to a charity, instead
Had a good run, July 3rd 2003 - June 11th 2012 (in my ownership anyways)

you were able to get it there working but it broke after the mechanic was done with it?
Had a chance to meet the man of my dreams this weekend... All fell apart when my phone decided to misspell a word leading him to a far different location than where I was.

I sincerely hope you work that out, and then post a screeny to damnyouautocorrect.com.
I took stock and I think I lost almost every single friend I made early freshmen year. Not really fml because I don't particularly care for most of them anymore for various reasons, mostly just them not being true friends, but just very depressing sounding...
I made 4 or 5 friends later on which i would consider true friends. People I can smoke some bud with.

Wasn't anything hilarious, just a wrong street number is all. Talked to him later and everything is ok in some way.

I think in the same situation I would have called if I thought I was being stood-up, but that might not be true for everyone, maybe too embarrassed perhaps?

What had happened was I was down in Americaland where Super Canada phone service is shotty at best. So we were speaking over Skype trying to meet up at a beach. It was all very last minute and my wifi was going in and out. It's more my fault for not planning it out better in advance.

I don't like bitching about my stuff here because it's nowhere near as bad as others', but here it is
I'm moving to Chicago in about a week. My parents are moving to Florida. I didn't want to go to Florida because it's kinda gay, so that's why I chose Chicago. That, and school at UIC. And everyone I know is here, so..
I already have the place to live figured out. Apartment with some friends. yadda.
I've been trying to figure out something for a job so I can afford to do this. My uncle works at a railroad in Hodgkins (same one my dad used to work at years ago). My uncle heard they'd have positions open so he had me drop an application. I was also told that I'd most likely get an interview and such when I dropped my application off. The railroad is a unionized thing, so that's cool. Good pay and insurance and such. I went there and filled out the application and waited for about an hour before being told that the guy I was referenced to for an interview and all that was busy with meetings and that I should leave and wait for a phone call. So I did. A couple weeks went by, nothing. I called the number of aforementioned guy and left a voicemail yesterday reminding him that I left and application and that my uncle told me about a potential job and that I was interested. So I'm still waiting to be hopefully contacted about this job, and in about a week I'll be in Chicago.
A friend of my dad's that also works pretty close to where I'll be in Chicago let my dad know that his place of work will be getting a few more openings at some point in the future and that he could help me out. The pay there would also be pretty good. Thing is, I don't know when that's gonna happen, and it sure isn't close enough to wait for.
I have no idea what I'm going to do for rent and food and anything, basically, if I don't have a job. I'm freaking out. I don't care if I have to pick up a shit part time job making minimum wage just so I can cover rent and food and gas until one of these better jobs pans out, but I'm at the point now where I'm scared because I have like $50 to my name and I need to live on that until I can find a job.
And that's pretty much that. I don't really know what to ask for, but I'll read whatever advice anyone has to give. Even if it's just for the sake of letting me know I'm not fucked.

Find where your apartment is, look at small businesses near by?

I'm really glad you're going back to school
And you're going to circle, my uncle went there
What degree/field are you going for?
Good luck, you're not fucked, try to cut down your costs as much as possible without severely impacting your health/sanity
[and now someone who's actually dealt with this sort of thing can step in and help a brother out ]

That's my plan at the moment, but I still have no idea what's gonna happen. And I'm not actually there yet, so it's difficult to find out what's there without having the newspaper/being able to physically look. I know the internet is an option as well, but some places don't advertise employment opportunities online especially if they're local.

Haha, I haven't not gone to school yet, but I will be taking this semester off to get financially situated. Majoring in Bio, but I want to get into radiology/radiological technician stuff. Because medical field.
I can operate fine on one meal a day, but I can only do that for a short amount of time with the money I have.
