My farts smell really bad.
MY ACID REFLUX TAUGHT ME SOMETHING LAST NIGHT
IT TAUGHT ME THAT SOMETIMES LEAFS FROM SALAD CAN STAY UNDIGESTED IN YOUR STOMACH FOR SEVERAL DAYS
I HAD NOT EATEN A SALAD SINCE FRIDAY< BUT SOMEHOW PUKED UP BILE AND LETTUCE AT 2AM

PS BITCHES DO NOT LOVE THOSE LEAFS
I go for surgery to remove a small growth from my tongue tomorrow.
I have no idea how long it will take or how involved it will be and I am expected to turn up at work right after. Paperwork, thankfully, not calls. But still...
I am terrified my work will get pissed at me. My boss knows I will be late and that I don't know HOW late. This appointment was scheduled last minute so I didn't have too much time at work to prepare and I have zero information about the procedure.
I have been in trouble for sick time already despite two legit doctor's notes for extended absences. But she told me at one point "good thing that was all cleared up because if it continued we might have had to let you go". You know, because I can control being (falsely) misdiagnosed with a serious disease. And I am in perfect control of my body and could have stopped this thing on my tongue if I wanted to.
Of course.

Honestly, I can see their side of it. If you're going to be off like that constantly, why not bring someone else in that isn't going to have an attendance problem. Legit reasons or not. Not trying to hate in you but I can see where they're coming from

The table below presents rough estimates for transit times in healthy humans following ingestion of a standard meal (i.e. solid, mixed foods).
50% of stomach contents emptied  | 2.5 to 3 hours
Total emptying of the stomach  | 4 to 5 hours
50% emptying of the small intestine  | 2.5 to 3 hours
Transit through the colon      | 30 to 40 hours

Er, so, I am aware that food transit times vary individually but lettuce chillin' in the stomach for 72 hours seems kind of odd. Just saying.

That attitude is fairly rare in the western world, over here (and I'm guessing in Canada as well) laws protect the employee from exploitation of the employer.

You cannot be fired for legitimate illnesses like this. I've had this happen to me once before with another company; at the time I missed some time and again, I had a doctor's note for all of it. They fired me for it and I went to some kind of human rights group, and they gave them some serious hell for it. I ended up getting a chunk of change out of it, too.
I do see their point, to a point. Yes, they need employees that can be there. And when I signed up, I could always be there. But how am I supposed to know that this will happen to me at some point down the road? Do you know how devastating it would have been if I actually did have that disease and then I was just fired in the middle of dealing with all that? I'm supposed to just roll over and let them take my job because at one point in my life, I had a doctor tell me I needed to stay home for X amount of time?

And this is why being fired for illness is illegal in most of the western world as that would make exploitation of workers very easy, we don't want to regress to the industrial age...
sounds like COMMUNISM and not FREEDOM

Making sense of what the hell the numbers and calculations for this lab are in Excel is... frustrating. The lab manual has been written by someone who has done this shit 500 times, so they feel that it's adequate to use ambiguous terms. And the sentence structures are convoluted and hard to decipher. Not a matter of difficult terminology (nothing easier than to look a few terms up), but a matter of fucking awful writing. The steps in their explanations seem arbitrarily organized and the numbers they want me to record are also ambiguous. I want to find these authors and punch them. A text used to teach lab techniques and theory should not be this bad. I think whoever wrote this is trying to sound "casual and informal," and it's pissing me off. I'm not chatting at a cafe sipping coffee with the fucking lab manual, I want to figure out what I need to do, how I do it, and why I should be doing it.
