Primary HDD just literally went up in smoke.
1st HDD I've ever had that had a catastrophic failure like that. Had to happen within 24h or Portal 2 releasing though.
So now I'm down to this little server for a week while my RMA drive cross-ships.
=|
was it a Western Digital ?
[/quote]
Yes it was.
Out of my ~12 running drives right now and the grand total of probably 30 drives I've purchased over time, all are WD drives, this is the only drive I've ever had fail besides a 1st gen Raptor drive. Just about every one of them produced shit the bed though, so I don't count that one, the drive was simply engineered like shit, they learned and now the Raptors are like whee.
5 year replacement warranty ftw, they cross-ship too.
-EDIT-
Did the RMA process last night about midnight, drive shipped today.
Mental score:
1) 1st (unexpected) major drive failure in a decade
2) 5 year replacement warranty
3) replacement drive ships <12h from RMA start, they ship 1st. (2nd day air)
Brand loyalty reinforced.
I am *so* getting a duplicate drive soon as I get some spare cash for RAID-1'ing that shit,

I intended to donate it so I kept it, but I still have a large bag full of my hair, in two ponytails. I don't know if I can still donate it because honestly, it's been years, but there it is.
I've since grown my hair out again, over the course of several years. I have discovered that I look hideous in short hair now that I'm older and fatter, but also that I am quite vain about my hair. I get told the same thing fairly often, that It's very nice. I love going to the salon for that reason. EVERY time I get told how beautiful it is and how jealous my hairdresser is.
It has only just gotten a little longer than it was the first time I cut it. I'll post a picture, I guess. This isn't really an FML but I get where you're coming from. It takes a lot of work. It's sad to see it go...
Gonna grow it as long as I can before I get sick of it and cut it to a more normal length. To my knees if possible! If you can imagine, I cut all this back once a few years ago to like an inch or two.
Holy Crap Luin, you look just like me when i had the hair that size.
Except for the girlyness part
You know what grinds my gears?
The fact that people cannot take a joke and make it all serious.
Before I want to go on my rant, I want to apologize for make insensitive Hitler jokes during 4/20. I did not know it was wrong, nor I did it in a malice or spite.
The point that I want to go across is that people cannot seem to take jokes all that well anymore. People are too sensitive about jokes, most of which is all in good fun. This build up started a couple months back about me and WoW. I said that I have no life in a sarcastic manner and someone yelled out, "Don't bring yourself down like that." I then was pissed, but I don't think it was enough to get me in a mood that I am in right now.
And then there was a time where I made a joke about how everyone is an idiot except for me. There is a ring of truth behind that statement that I implied, which was that the only person that you can considered to be smart is yourself. Some people happened to not get it and then bashed me about it, before I told them what it really meant. Of course, they apologized to me, but the whole start was putting me on a really pissed mood.
And then there were times and which people seem to yell at me for not being sensitive about certain subject matters, like asian jokes. Yeah, I make fun of myself for being an asian and I used some "terrible driver" jokes. And then they say that I'm not being sensitive about my ethnicity and that I'm insecure about myself. If I wasn't insecure about myself, I would not make those jokes. In fact, I think I have more balls than everyone else, because I can take it like a man.
This forum thing just pushed the button to the point that I need to blow this steam out of the way. I wasn't trying to "Hulk Hogan" the thread, I was trying to make a "birthday joke" on 4/20.
Think of me as a terrible person if you want, it's not like I get that a lot.
Or maybe they're joking about being offended and you're taking it too seriously? But yeah man, it's all good in my eyes. I'm part jewish and I enjoy a good hitler joke as much as the next guy.
Honestly, it's always hard to judge someone's 'ha ha im kidding' level via text
maybe throw in a jk in there, cmon man give us some signs
for fucks sake people take what comes out of lag's mouth seriously? dude's probably the biggest joker that brbu has, for shame people.

Honestly, I do not think I need to put a jk, since I thought everyone knew that I am the biggest
idiot snark around.
But maybe people are too sensitive about every single word that is thrown out in cyberspace. If the internet is not serious business, maybe people would just let things fall the way they should fall without the jk.
In a sense, this is an attack on every person who uses the internet, because they all happened to think it is not all fun and games. That includes me by default as well, since I'm typing things on a forum.
And this does not encompass cyber life, but real life as well. People gets up all in arms in which Rosie O'Donald was trying to make a statement about how worldly Tom Cruise was towards the world. And she happens to use "ching chong ching" or something along lines. I wasn't offended by it, but the asian population thought it was too offensive. She was making a point and yet people attacked her, not accepting it as a joke. So she should put "just kidding" at the end of her statement, right? I don't think so, but maybe to increase human sensitivity, we should do it.
I'm just frustrated by the fact that we, as in the whole human population, should evolved out of the "words hurt me" phase, which we did not. Maybe I'm just being too critical about people and think that everyone should be like me.
I apologized for everything if I offended everyone.
Your apology offends me

My Grandfather's Alzheimer's is progressing. He can't remember the old war stories he used to tell me over and over again...
You know, I got really annoyed at one point by the same story, and wished that he would just stop telling them. I wish I had never said that.

That fucking sucks hard. You need to help him remember the stories, then record them so they don't get lost.

he lives in New Mexico, I wouldn't be able to visit him. His hearing is really bad too, so I can't call him.

Welp, time to get a new pair of glasses. Metal fatigue. I'm on the backup pair and they're slipping everywhere.
Alzheimer's is a miserable disease. Turns you into a shell.
